Samsung One UI 8.5 Roadmap: May 2026 Rollout Schedule and New Features
Samsung
has officially kicked off the stable rollout of One UI 8.5 this week!
Starting
in South Korea on May 6 and expanding globally throughout the rest of the
month, this update brings a suite of new Galaxy AI features and the
long-awaited integration of Apple-style connectivity.
The Rollout Schedule: Who Gets It
When?
Samsung is following its traditional phased approach. While the update started in South Korea, global regions
including Europe and North America are expected to see the "Update
Available" notification starting the week of May 11.
Phase
1: Early May (Available Now)
·
Galaxy S25
Series:
Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and the new S25 Edge.
·
Galaxy
Z Fold/Flip: Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
·
Galaxy
S26 Series: (Note: S26
models launched with 8.5, but are receiving the May security patch
stabilization).
Phase 2: Mid-May (Expected May 11–20)
·
Previous Gen
Flagships:
Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE.
·
Foldables: Galaxy Z Fold 6
and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
·
Tablets: Galaxy Tab S11
and Tab S11 Ultra.
Phase
3: Late May (Expected May 25+)
·
Upper
Mid-Range:
Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A56 5G.
·
Legacy
Flagships: Galaxy S23
Series (currently in the final stages of internal testing).
· Tablets: Galaxy Tab S10 series.
Calling One UI 8.5 an "incremental" update
doesn't do it justice. Based on Android 16, it focuses heavily
on deep AI integration and cross-platform communication.
·
AirDrop
over Quick Share: In a major move for interoperability, Samsung has enabled
native support for AirDrop-style sharing with non-Galaxy devices, simplifying
file transfers across ecosystems.
·
"Now
Nudge" AI: A new feature within the Samsung
Keyboard that predicts your next action based on the context of your
conversation (e.g., suggesting a calendar invite when you type "let's
meet").
·
Fully
Customizable Quick Panel: You can now move and resize every
toggle in the Quick Settings panel, including the brightness slider and device
control icons.
·
Privacy
Protection: A new "On-Device Protection" engine that
automatically blurs sensitive information (like credit card numbers or
addresses) when you take a screenshot or share a document.
·
Dynamic
Lock Screens: The layout now automatically adjusts its typography and
widget placement to complement your wallpaper using AI-driven aesthetic
analysis.
Alongside the One UI 8.5 features, the May update includes
the latest security maintenance release. This month’s
patch addresses 39
Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities (SVEs) and includes 29 Android CVEs, two of
which were labeled as "Critical."
