Facebook’s New 2026 Update Moves Navigation Bar to the Bottom: How to Fix It

Facebook’s New 2026 Update Moves Navigation Bar to the Bottom: How to Fix It

If you opened your Facebook app this week only to find your thumbs reaching for empty space at the top of your screen, you are definitely not alone.

A brand-new Facebook application update has completely shifted the core shortcut navigation bar (Home, Marketplace, Notifications, and Menu) from the top of the interface down to the bottom.

The internet is collectively pushing back against the sudden layout change, leaving many searching for an option to reverse it. Here is everything you need to know about why Meta made this shift, and what you can do to manage it.

Why Did Facebook Move the Navigation Bar to the Bottom?

For years, Android users grew accustomed to having their main menu and shortcut options pinned comfortably at the top of the app, while iOS users had theirs at the bottom.

The recent update aims to standardize the user experience across all operating systems. Additionally, as modern smartphone and tablet displays get taller, placing essential navigation tabs at the bottom makes them significantly easier to reach with one hand.

While it makes sense from a modern design standpoint, it completely disrupts years of muscle memory, leading to major frustration for long-time users.

Can You Officially Move the Bar Back to the Top?

The Short Answer: No. There is currently no official toggle button in the Facebook settings menu that allows you to manually swap the navigation bar back to the top of the screen.

Meta deploys these updates as server-side design overhauls. Once the account receives the update flag, the layout changes automatically.

3 Workarounds to Deal With the Bottom Navigation Bar

While you cannot flip a single switch to revert the design, you can use these reliable workarounds to regain control over your mobile browsing experience.

Method 1: Personalize and Clean Up Your Shortcuts

If you are stuck with the bar at the bottom, you can at least customize which icons show up there to prevent clutter and accidental clicks.

Method 2: Switch to a Mobile Web Browser

If you absolutely despise the bottom layout and want your navigation elements firmly at the top, delete or disable the official app and use a web browser like Google Chrome, Samsung Internet, or Brave instead.

·       Launch your preferred browser and visit m.facebook.com.

·       Log into your account.

·       The mobile browser version still preserves the classic legacy layout, keeping the core menu tabs strictly at the top of the screen.

·       Bonus Tip: Tap your browser's menu button (three dots) and select "Add to Home screen" to create an app-like shortcut shortcut on your phone.

Method 3: Sideload an Older Version of the App (Advanced Android Users)

If you use an Android device and are comfortable installing APKs, you can temporarily uninstall your current Facebook app and download a slightly older version (from early May 2026 or late 2025) via a trusted repository like APKMirror.

·       Warning: This is a temporary fix. Eventually, older app builds lose compatibility with Facebook's live servers, forcing an upgrade. Make sure to turn off "Auto-update apps" in the Google Play Store settings if you try this.

Major social media UI overhauls are rarely popular at launch, but users generally adapt within a few weeks. If the bottom bar ruins your browsing workflow, standardizing your shortcut pins or switching to a mobile browser will give you immediate relief while Meta refines the current rollout.
